Freetown, 6th November 2025- A devastating case has shaken Sierra Leone’s southern region, as an autopsy conducted at the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown confirms that the death of a two-year-old girl from Nomiyama Village, Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District, resulted from sexual penetration.
The child was taken to the Moyamba Government Hospital by her father on 25th October 2025, reportedly for treatment of malaria. She died the following morning under circumstances that immediately raised concern among medical staff. Upon examination, doctors observed severe swelling in her genital and anal regions—findings that prompted an urgent referral to the Bo Mortuary and subsequently to the 34 Military Hospital for a full forensic autopsy.
Pathologist Dr Simone Owiz Koroma, who led the examination, confirmed that the child had been sexually assaulted, and that the trauma sustained was directly linked to her death.
The body has since been returned to Moyamba for burial, while police investigations continue. No suspects have been named, but the bereaved family is cooperating with authorities as they pursue leads in what is now a criminal case of sexual assault and homicide.
