Makeni, 1st December 2025 Wusum Field, the historic home ground of Makeni-based Wusum Stars, has recently drawn public attention over maintenance challenges that threaten both players and fans.

One of the country’s oldest and largest football facilities, Wusum Field has hosted male and female Premier League matches and nurtured generations of football talent. Its history is steeped in passion, sweat, and triumph. Yet today, questions are being asked: how did the stadium reach this point, and what is the North-East Regional Football Association doing to address the health risks?

Speaking on the matter, Tejan Frederickson Fatorma, Head of Media and Marketing for the North-East Regional Football Association, acknowledged the concerns but stressed that not all facilities are in poor condition.

“Not all the restrooms are like this,” Fatorma explained. “The stadium has two restrooms, a washing room, and dressing rooms for the home and away teams, and those are always clean and well taken care of.”

He admitted, however, that the fans’ restroom is in a “very bad state,” citing difficulties in managing and controlling the facility with only one caretaker and a low perimeter fence.

Fatorma expressed frustration at repeated vandalism:

“People with unscrupulous behaviors always try to put our hard work in vain. Most of the time when we carry out maintenance, people jump over the fence and mess up the restrooms, even though we have a caretaker. Unfortunately, he cannot be everywhere at once, especially at night when it is extremely dark.”

Despite these challenges, Fatorma assured fans that the association remains committed to rehabilitation efforts.

“We are fully responsible, and rehabilitation is ongoing. We will do our best to ensure the facility is maintained,” he said.
