Freetown, 23rd March 2026-  Following an outcry on the Truth Education Platform, the current batch of students studying in Algeria has confirmed the release of their 2024/2025 stipends. The students stated that the funds had been previously disbursed but were withheld by the Embassy in Senegal.

“It was the Embassy in Senegal that withheld the funds, but they were later contacted by authorities after we vented our frustration via Truth Media,” revealed Abdullai Musa Marah, Internal and External Officer for International Students in Algeria.

Marah noted that those on internship programs and in distant areas of Algeria have not collected their stipends yet, but will do so once they sign the voucher.

“If they go today, they will definitely get their 2024/2025 funds.”

Abdullai further stated that they are also expecting funds for the 2025/2026 academic year, while pleading with the government to include stipends for 21 new students who are believed to be on fully-funded scholarships but cannot meet their basic needs.

“Please, we call on the government to also release our stipends for 2025/2026. It is challenging. Also, we kindly ask that the government send funds for the 21 new students who we were told are on fully-funded programs, but are largely constrained in meeting their basic needs,” he pleaded.

While these students commend the government and relevant authorities for intervening, they are pleading for the disbursement of funds for the 2025/2026 academic year and the inclusion of the 21 new students in the budget.
