Freetown, 2nd December, 2025 – The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has issued a stern reminder to Members of Parliament (MPs) that plenary sittings begin at 10:00 AM, warning that habitual lateness could lead to limitations on parliamentary privileges.

Addressing the Chamber, Speaker Thomas commended legislators who have consistently arrived on time, describing their conduct as “exemplary dedication.” He stressed that punctuality is not only vital for the smooth running of parliamentary business but also for maintaining public confidence in the institution.

“When we start on time, we send a clear message that the work of the people matters,” Speaker Thomas declared. “This is not about blame, but about ensuring that every voice is present when decisions that affect the nation are made.”

To reinforce his point, the Speaker announced that he would begin naming MPs who fail to be in their seats when proceedings commence. The move, he said, is intended to instill discipline and ensure that parliamentary debates and votes reflect the full participation of elected representatives.

The warning comes as Parliament prepares for a demanding schedule of bills, oversight hearings, and budget reviews. With the Speaker’s firm stance, lawmakers are expected to adjust their routines, paving the way for more efficient and credible proceedings in the months ahead.
