Marrakesh, Morocco, 26th November 2025 – The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), James Bagie Bio, is representing Sierra Leone at the 93rd General Assembly of INTERPOL, currently underway in Marrakesh.

He is part of a delegation that includes senior officials of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), attending the high-level gathering to strengthen international cooperation and shape the future of global law enforcement.

The annual assembly brings together police chiefs, security experts, and policymakers from across the world to deliberate on pressing security challenges. Sierra Leone’s participation underscores its growing role in tackling transnational crime and aligning with global security priorities.

In recent months, the SLRSA, working closely with the SLP, has intensified operations against vehicle-related crimes. These include cracking down on stolen vehicles and preventing their registration in the national database, part of a broader push to enhance road safety and curb criminal activity linked to transport.

At the opening ceremony, INTERPOL President Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi welcomed delegates and expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting the event. He highlighted the mounting threats of organized crime, cybercrime, and terrorism, stressing that “no region is immune” from these challenges.

Al-Raisi also unveiled INTERPOL’s new strategic framework, developed through consultations with member states and partners. The framework sets out four strategic goals designed to translate INTERPOL’s vision, “Together against crime”, and mission, “To connect and empower global law enforcement for a safer world”, into concrete priorities.

The General Assembly will deliberate on strengthening international information-sharing systems, a cornerstone of modern policing, and will also elect a new president and members of the Executive Committee.

For Sierra Leone, the meeting offers an opportunity to deepen collaboration with global partners while reinforcing its domestic reforms in law enforcement and road safety. Executive Director Bio is expected to contribute to discussions on counter-terrorism, combating transnational crime, and enhancing global security coordination, ensuring Sierra Leone’s voice is heard in shaping the future of international policing.
