Freetown, Sierra Leone, 16th September 2025 – In a rather unprecedented move that has sent shockwaves through Sierra Leone’s judiciary, Justice Allan B. Halloway, a sitting Judge of the Superior Court of Judicature, has been suspended with immediate effect by presidential directive.
According to an official letter signed by Barba B. Fortune, Secretary to the President, the suspension was enacted under Section 137(6) of the 1991 Constitution, following advice from the Judicial and Legal Service Commission (JLSC) at its meeting held on 5 September 2025.
“His Excellency the President hereby suspends you as Judge of the Superior Court of Judicature with immediate effect until the outcome of a Disciplinary Tribunal instituted to investigate your conduct,” the letter stated.
The JLSC has further ordered that Justice Halloway be formally interdicted, effective September 2025, pending the tribunal’s findings.
This marks one of the most high-profile judicial suspensions in recent years. This comes just weeks after Justice-Halloway wrote a lengthy letter of complaint accusing Chief Justice Komba Kamanda of intimidation and violation of his human rights raising serious questions about internal accountability and the integrity of the bench.
