Larnaca, Cyprus — 12th  November 2025President Julius Maada Bio has arrived in the Republic of Cyprus for an official visit at the invitation of Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. The visit marks a renewed chapter in the two nations’ longstanding diplomatic relationship, which spans over two decades.

Upon arrival at Larnaca International Airport, President Bio and his delegation were warmly received by senior Cypriot officials and Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, who is also accredited to Cyprus. The President was then escorted to his hotel in Nicosia, the capital city.

The visit comes at a pivotal moment, as Cyprus prepares to assume the six-month rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 1, 2026. President Bio’s presence underscores Sierra Leone’s intent to strengthen its voice on global platforms and reinforce cooperation between the European Union and ECOWAS.

Sierra Leone and Cyprus have maintained close ties through multilateral institutions such as the Commonwealth and the United Nations, collaborating on shared priorities including peacebuilding, sustainable development, and democratic governance.

President Bio’s official engagements begin on Thursday, 13 November, with a welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, where he will be received with full honours by President Christodoulides. The two leaders are expected to hold bilateral talks focused on expanding cooperation in trade, education, cultural exchange, and governance.

During his stay, President Bio will also visit the Municipality of Nicosia, the House of Representatives, and key cultural landmarks including the Byzantine Museum and the Cyprus Museum—highlighting Sierra Leone’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and mutual understanding.

The visit reflects Sierra Leone’s broader foreign policy goals: to deepen strategic partnerships in Europe, promote democratic values, and advance inclusive development through international cooperation.
