Freetown, 29th October, 2025– Sierra Leone’s Parliament has cancelled a highly anticipated consultative engagement with the Tripartite Committee, just hours before it was scheduled to begin.
The session, originally set for 10:00 AM today in Committee Room One, was expected to kickstart pre-legislative discussions on the 78 recommendations proposed by the Tripartite Committee, a cornerstone of the Agreement for National Unity. The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, was slated to formally present the proposals to Members of Parliament.
However, a public notice issued by the Office of the Clerk of Parliament announced the cancellation “until further notice,” urging MPs to accommodate any inconvenience caused. No reason was provided.
The abrupt U-turn has raised eyebrows among observers, given the session’s significance in shaping Sierra Leone’s political and electoral reforms ahead of the 2028 elections.
