Freetown, 8th January 2026-  The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has released a financial breakdown of the recently concluded One Nation Reggae Festival, presenting the event as both a cultural milestone and an economic driver for Sierra Leone’s creative industries.

At a press conference held at the Ministry’s headquarters on Kingharman Road, officials disclosed that proceeds from the six‑day festival were strategically allocated across national revenue, creative sector development, and international solidarity efforts.

NLe 230,130 was paid directly to the National Revenue Authority (NRA), underscoring the festival’s contribution to state coffers. NLe 767,100 was earmarked for the establishment of a Creative Village, a long‑term investment designed to nurture Sierra Leonean talent and provide infrastructure for future cultural enterprises and USD 10,000 was donated to support hurricane relief efforts in Jamaica, reflecting the festival’s international solidarity and its Caribbean heritage link.

Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, emphasized that the allocations demonstrate how cultural events can generate measurable social and economic value. “This festival was not just about music; it was about building frameworks that strengthen our creative economy and reinforce Sierra Leone’s position as a destination for international cultural investment,” she said.

Festival Coordinator Francis Momoh added that the financial outcomes were part of a deliberate strategy to ensure the event leaves a lasting legacy. “We wanted to move beyond a one‑off celebration. By channeling proceeds into structured initiatives, we are laying the foundation for sustainable growth in the cultural sector,” he explained.

While the festival recorded strong community participation and international attention, officials acknowledged logistical and operational challenges that affected efficiency. Permanent Secretary Judith Jones noted that these lessons will inform financial planning and resource management for future editions.
