Freetown, 23rd October 2025- Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has issued a bold and personal response to critics who have targeted him with homophobic slurs and sexist taunts, declaring that such attacks are not only baseless but a reflection of failed leadership.
In a widely shared social media post, Sengeh addressed recent attempts to malign his character, including claims about his sexuality and gender expression. “First they called me gay. Then they called me Kadiatu,” he wrote. “It was an attack on my personhood.”
He described how opponents circulated PowerPoint slides of his college days, photos of him and friends living ordinary student lives as supposed “evidence” of bisexuality. Others mocked his mannerisms, saying he “argues like a woman” or “laughs like a woman.”
“They don’t hurt me,” he said. “They hurt themselves. They show there’s nothing worthy to criticize, so they make up hateful stories and pinch the hearts on morality. They expose themselves.”
Sengeh used the moment to reaffirm his values and identity. “Hi, my name is David Moinina Sengeh,” he wrote. “I’m a leader, an activist, a problem solver, a designer, a rapper, a scientist, author, inventor, and winner of the World Best Minister award. I am happily married with two kids. No, I’m not gay, though it’s none of your business.”
His post struck a chord with many, not just for its defiance but for its clarity on what leadership should look like. “I represent a new form of leadership,” he continued. “I’m not perfect, I have lots to learn. But I am ready, prepared, capable, and more.”
