Freetown, 14th November, 2025 — Sierra Leone’s music legend Jimmy Bangura, affectionately known as Jimmy B, has paid a heartfelt tribute to rapper Daddy Saj on the occasion of his 50th birthday, calling him “an effective lieutenant” and “the definition of gratitude, loyalty, and respect.”

In a moving message shared with fans and industry peers, Jimmy B reflected on their decades-long friendship and professional journey, describing Daddy Saj—real name Joseph Gerald Adolphus Cole, as a “determined young man with so much fire” when they first met in 1997 in Conakry, Guinea.

“I met a young refugee,” Jimmy B recalled. “An energetic, talented and determined young man… and he inspired me. After several meetings with him, I was motivated to set up the iconic Paradise Records back home in Sierra Leone, after the war.”

Daddy Saj became Jimmy B’s first signing under Paradise Records, a label that would go on to shape Sierra Leone’s post-war music scene. “He contributed to the growth and success of the label,” Jimmy B said. “He also witnessed the storms and helped steer the ship to safety.”

The tribute highlighted Daddy Saj’s unwavering loyalty through the highs and lows of the Paradise Family. “No matter the challenges, he never flinched and never wavered,” Jimmy B said. “He would always say the nicest things about me, even when I’m not present, a trait so difficult to see in a world that is increasingly hateful, ungrateful, and full of envy.”

Jimmy B also praised Daddy Saj’s consistency and humility. “It’s rare for him not to reach out at least once a month, consistently over the years,” he noted. “He would always let me and others know how much of an influence I was in his life. And for this, I am honored.”

Daddy Saj rose to national prominence with his 2003 hit “Corruption E Do So”, a bold anthem that challenged political corruption and became a cultural touchstone. His fearless approach to music and activism earned him widespread respect and cemented his legacy as one of Sierra Leone’s most consequential artists.

“Today, I celebrate loyalty. I celebrate gratitude and respect. I celebrate Daddy Saj,” Jimmy B declared. “May you live to celebrate many more years in good health and prosperity. God’s favor, God’s grace, and abundant blessings I wish you today and always.”
