Freetown, 10th February, 2026– His Eminence Cardinal Arrigo Miglio, Italian Cardinal and Archbishop Emeritus of Cagliari, Italy, paid a courtesy visit to President Julius Maada Bio as part of his pastoral tour of Sierra Leone. The meeting underscored the Catholic Church’s longstanding partnership with the nation and its role in advancing social and spiritual development.
Discussions centred on the Church’s contributions to health care, education, peacebuilding, and community services. President Bio commended the Catholic Church for its enduring support, noting its impact on strengthening moral values and improving lives across Sierra Leone.
In his remarks, President Bio said: “Today, I welcomed His Eminence Cardinal Arrigo Miglio on his pastoral visit to Sierra Leone. I acknowledged the Catholic Church’s contributions to health care, education, and other sectors. Through the Cardinal, I sent my regards and best wishes to Pope Leo XIV.”
