Freetown, 27th October 2025- In a continued effort to fight against the spread of Kush, Honourable Chernor Maju Bah, popularly known as Chericoco, delivered a keynote address at the launching of the Anti-Drug Campaign organised by Friends of Chericoco at the UMC School compound in Freetown.
The event was attended by a cross-section of APC Members of Parliament, community residents, and party supporters. The atmosphere was charged with energy as attendees chanted “Say No to Kush” and held banners carrying the same message.
Delivering the opening remarks, Mohamed Kamara, District Chairman for the East, highlighted the importance of the campaign, describing it as a major step towards ending Kush and substance abuse in the country.
In his address, Honourable Bah called for a moment of silence in memory of all those who have died as a result of Kush and other harmful substances. He emphasised the growing threat of not only Kush but other hard drugs that continue to devastate the youth.
“I am here not only to talk about Kush,” he said, “but also other hard drugs.”
The rise in Kush use has sparked widespread concern among citizens and the government. Videos and photos allegedly showing victims of the drug have been circulating online, painting a grim picture of the crisis.
Bah urged citizens to take an active role in combating drug abuse, stressing that the fight concerns everyone.
“You should be ambassadors in your communities. Report if you find someone selling drugs in your communities,”he warned.
As Guest Speaker, Honourable Alhassan Kamara questioned the government’s handling of the drug crisis, describing the response as lacking “political will” and “leadership.”
“As a party, our stance is firmly against Kush and substance abuse in Sierra Leone,” Kamara affirmed.
In his closing remarks, Bah called on the government to ban the importation of Tramadol and to enact stronger laws to prevent pharmaceutical companies from importing the drug into the country.
