Freetown, 22nd January 2026- The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) is in a period of mourning following the tragic death of three officers in a highway patrol accident. The incident, which occurred during a routine operation, has sparked public speculation about the officers’ assignment. Senior police officials have firmly dismissed claims that the victims were part of a presidential convoy.
Assistant Inspector General of Police and Director of Operations, Dr. John Martin Senessie, clarified that the fallen officers were members of the highway patrol unit tasked with enforcing road safety and ensuring compliance with traffic laws.
“They were not attached to the presidential convoy, as has been alleged,” Dr. Senessie stated. “These officers were carrying out their normal duties when the unfortunate accident occurred.”
The crash, which also left other officers injured, has drawn widespread sympathy across the country. Dr. Senessie confirmed that the surviving officers are receiving medical treatment and assured the public that they will continue to receive full support as they recover.
The SLP has described the loss as a devastating blow to the force, emphasizing the dedication and service of the officers who died in the line of duty.
