Freetown, 16th February, 2026Hon. Mrs. Justice Amy Juliet Wright has formally retired from her position as a Judge of the High Court of Sierra Leone, bringing to a close nearly a decade of service on the bench. Reliable sources have however confirmed that, she had submitted her resignation a little over a month ago.

In a letter addressed to President Julius Maada Bio, Justice Wright referenced her appointment to the High Court in April 2016 and noted that she had attained the constitutional retirement age of 60 in July 2024.

Citing Section 137(2)(a) of the 1991 Constitution, she explained: “A person holding office as a Judge of the Superior Court of Judicature may retire as Judge at any time after attaining the age of sixty years.”

Justice Wright confirmed that she would proceed on retirement effective January 15, 2026, in line with constitutional provisions. Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve, she wrote:

“Allow me to use this opportunity to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for the opportunity and privilege accorded me to serve my country, and I hope I have made a difference in my own way.”

Her resignation has been formally communicated to the Chief Justice, the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, and other relevant authorities.

Justice Wright’s departure marks a significant moment for Sierra Leone’s judiciary, as High Court judges are constitutionally mandated to vacate office at age 65 but may opt for early retirement after 60
