Freetown, 30th March 2026- The May Park Boys are heading to Switzerland to represent Sierra Leone at the Global AI Robotics Championships after defeating Bo School in the finals to win the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge, Sierra Leone, earlier today, March 28, 2026.

In addition to earning the opportunity to represent the nation on the global stage, the team also secured the top prize of NLe40,000 for their outstanding performance in the competition.

The Robotics for Good Youth Challenge is the leading UN-based global robotics championship, inviting students aged 10 to 18 to develop AI and robotics-based solutions to tackle global challenges. The Sierra Leone National Qualifier is organized by the Kamara Yokie Innovation Center in partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation under the global AI for Good initiative supported by the International Telecommunication Union. Participants design, build, and program robots to complete missions that address real-world agricultural challenges.

Their victory marks an important milestone for youth innovation and technological development in Sierra Leone, underscoring the growing importance of STEM education in preparing the nation’s young minds for the future.

The team’s journey was strengthened by the STEM Lab at St. Edward’s Secondary School, an initiative sponsored by the Old Edwardians Association DMV and the BH Foundation. This investment in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is already demonstrating its impact, equipping students with the skills and exposure needed to compete on the global stage.

As the May Park Boys prepare to represent Sierra Leone internationally, their achievement stands as a powerful reminder that when a nation invests in education, innovation, and opportunity, its young people can rise to compete with the very best in the world.

From home soil to the global stage, the future is in motion, and Sierra Leone’s young innovators are helping lead the way. 🇸🇱
