Freetown, 8th December 2015 – Former National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), (2017 to 2025), Umaru Napoleon Koroma, has firmly denied allegations circulating on social media suggesting that funds went missing during the tenure of the previous party executive.

His denial follows a viral video in which Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Madam Fatima Bio, alleged that party officials failed to properly account for One Billion Old Leones she had deposited into the SLPP’s account.

In a statement issued on his socials, Koroma described the claims as “baseless,” and reaffirmed that all financial transactions under his leadership were properly documented and executed in line with party procedures.

“My attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media making baseless claims about funds ‘vanishing’ from the SLPP account during the previous executive’s tenure,” Koroma said. “I want to clarify unequivocally that no funds went missing. All expenses made under our leadership followed proper procedures and were supported by legitimate documentation.”

Koroma went further to invite the current SLPP executive to conduct a full audit of the party’s finances during his time in office. He expressed confidence that such an exercise would confirm the integrity and transparency of the previous administration, including the deposit of 1 million new Leones into the party’s account from fundraising activities held at the Bintumani Conference.

“I welcome the new executive to conduct an audit of our time in office,” he said. “I am confident that such an examination will validate the integrity and transparency with which we managed the party’s finances.”

Koroma also cautioned party members against making divisive public statements that could undermine those who have served the SLPP during difficult periods.

“I urge all party leaders, stalwarts, and stakeholders to be cautious of their statements that could undermine individuals who have dedicated themselves to our party during challenging times, even when it was not popular to do so,” he said. “Such actions not only create divisions within our party but also portray us differently. This, without a doubt, jeopardizes the unity of our great party.”

He called for a shift in focus toward the upcoming 2028 elections, urging members to prioritize unity and strategic communication in defence of the SLPP’s legacy under President Julius Maada Bio.

“I call on everyone to tone down and concentrate on the task of winning the 2028 elections to maintain and protect the legacy of President Julius Maada Bio,” Koroma added.

Concluding his statement, Koroma expressed pride in his leadership and reaffirmed his willingness to continue serving the party. He also extended warm holiday wishes to SLPP members and their families.

“I am proud of my achievements and leadership, and I am willing to offer my time, service, and dedication to the party whenever required,” he said.
