Freetown, 18th March 2026 — The newly appointed Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Edmond Sylvester Alpha, has extended an invitation to the leadership of the All People’s Congress (APC) for a formal meeting at the Commission’s headquarters.

In a letter addressed to the APC Chairman, Mr. Alpha announced his assumption of office as Chief Electoral Commissioner, Chairman, and National Returning Officer. He acknowledged the weight of responsibility entrusted to him and pledged to uphold fairness and professionalism in the management of Sierra Leone’s electoral processes.

“As the substantive Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman, I am deeply committed to ensuring that the Commission remains a beacon of fairness and professionalism,” Alpha stated.

The meeting, scheduled between March 23 and April 10, 2026, is part of a series of engagements with all registered political parties. According to Mr. Alpha, the objective is to share his vision for the Commission, provide updates on ongoing activities, and discuss the strategic roadmap leading to the 2028 General Elections.

He emphasized that inclusive dialogue with political stakeholders is central to building confidence in the electoral system and ensuring transparency.
