Freetown, 25th March, 2026 – A survey by the Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI) has revealed that 76% of respondents believe the All People’s Congress (APC) decision to withdraw its elected officials from governance activities undermines Sierra Leone’s democracy and deprives citizens of their representation.
The poll, conducted to gauge public opinion on the opposition party’s boycott, found that only 22% of respondents supported the move, describing it as a necessary stand to protect electoral integrity. A further 2% said they were undecided.
CHRDI noted that the findings highlight widespread concern that the absence of APC councillors and parliamentarians weakens democratic debate and limits accountability in governance.
The APC announced its withdrawal from council and parliamentary activities citing alleged irregularities in the electoral process which includes the appointment of Edmond Alpha as Chief Electoral Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL)
