Freetown, 10th March, 2026 – The National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, on Tuesday received the Chinese Ambassador in Freetown during a courtesy visit aimed at deepening ties between the SLPP and the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Welcoming the delegation, Sir Jimmy expressed gratitude to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its longstanding support, recalling the 2019 invitation of a 15-member SLPP team to the CPC Leadership Academy. He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration, urging the Ambassador to provide additional leadership training and technical assistance to strengthen the capacity of SLPP executives nationwide.
In response, the Chinese Ambassador reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to working closely with the SLPP-led government under President Julius Maada Bio. He pledged China’s readiness to support Sierra Leone’s fight against poverty and to contribute to infrastructural development across the country. The Ambassador also assured the SLPP leadership that their request for further training opportunities would be given positive consideration.
The meeting underscored the growing political and developmental partnership between Sierra Leone and China, with both parties highlighting the importance of mutual cooperation in advancing national progress.
