Freetown, 23rd September 2025- Central University has officially entered into a strategic academic partnership with the University of Basilicata, marking a significant milestone in its internationalization efforts under the European Union’s Erasmus+ program.

“I am pleased to announce that Central University has officially signed a partnership agreement with the University of Basilicata under the EU Erasmus+ project,” Chancellor Muckson Sesay Snr wrote on social media

The agreement, signed in Matera, sets the stage for robust collaboration between the two institutions, including student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, shared teaching programs, and access to academic resources and facilities. The partnership also opens doors for seminars, lectures, and the exchange of scientific knowledge and materials, aimed at fostering innovation and cross-border academic growth.

Chancellor Muckson Sesay Snr, from Central University, described the partnership as a “transformative step” toward global academic integration.

The signing in Matera is part of a broader European mission by the Chancellor, who is expected to continue engagements in Rome and Lisbon to explore further collaborations with Portuguese and Romanian counterparts.

The Erasmus+ program, funded by the European Union, supports education, training, youth, and sport across Europe, and has become a key vehicle for international academic partnerships.

Central University’s move signals a growing ambition among Sierra Leonean institutions to expand their global reach and deepen academic excellence through strategic alliances.
