Freetown, 10th February 2026- The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has issued a stark ultimatum to the All People’s Congress (APC): pay a fine imposed for controversial remarks by party officials, or face suspension from political activity.

Speaking on Truth Morning Devotion, PPRC Chairman Emmanuel K. Amara confirmed that the APC has yet to settle the penalty, despite repeated reminders. “By close of business today, if the fine remains unpaid, the Commission will suspend the APC at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow,” Amara declared. Suspension, he explained, would bar the party from engaging in any political activities, with law enforcement agencies ensuring compliance.

The fine stems from statements made by APC National Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya Esq. and party member Zainab Sheriff during a general meeting. Amara stressed that under Section 39 of the Political Parties Act, parties are accountable for remarks made by their members. “The law is clear — responsibility lies with the party,” he said, warning that refusal to take responsibility for Sheriff’s comments would trigger suspension.

Dumbuya has publicly stood by his remarks, but Amara insisted that this does not absolve the APC of liability. “He may stand by what he said, but the statements violated the Act. The fine must be paid,” Amara noted.

The Commission outlined two possible reprieves: a formal request from the APC for more time, or a court order challenging the decision. Absent either, suspension is automatic. “The only circumstances under which the PPRC will not suspend the party are if the fine is paid, or if we receive a letter or court order,” Amara emphasized.

He concluded by underscoring that the Commission is bound to enforce laws passed by Parliament. “These provisions were made by Parliament, comprising members from different political parties. The Commission is duty-bound to enforce them strictly,” Amara said.

With the deadline now hours away, the APC faces a defining test: compliance or suspension.
