Freetown, 19th February 2026- The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, has publicly addressed concerns raised by Member of Parliament Osman Abdal Timbo over the procedural handling of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

In a statement, the Attorney General confirmed that he had formally replied to Hon. Timbo’s letter, which questioned whether due process was followed in tabling the proposed amendment, particularly its publication requirements under Section 108(2)(a) of the 1991 Constitution.

Hon. Timbo had argued that the Bill appeared not to have been published in at least two issues of the Government Gazette prior to its first reading, as the Constitution mandates. “It seems the Bill was not published in two issues of the Gazette as required,” he wrote.

Responding, Attorney General Sesay clarified that the Bill was indeed published in two separate Gazette issues, in full compliance with constitutional requirements. He said the Government Printer had provided him with the relevant copies, which he has now shared publicly.

Sesay explained that because Hon. Timbo’s letter was circulated on social media, he felt compelled to also release the Gazette copies through the same medium. “Openness and accountability demand that the public sees the facts,” he noted.
