Freetown, 1st December, 2025 – Afreximbank has announced the successful financial close of a US$330 million senior debt facility for the Baomahun Gold Project, marking a major step toward Sierra Leone’s first large-scale commercial gold mine. The deal was completed in partnership with the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC).
Afreximbank’s own US$75 million contribution brings total secured financing for the project to US$430 million, with additional capital mobilised through the Trafigura Group. This injection of funds accelerates project execution and positions Baomahun to move closer to its first gold production.
Officials say the transaction underscores growing confidence in Africa-led resource development and highlights Afreximbank’s expanding role in strategic minerals financing.
This milestone reflects strong investor belief in Sierra Leone’s mining potential and Afreximbank’s commitment to enabling value creation across Africa’s resource sector.
The Baomahun project is expected to become a cornerstone of Sierra Leone’s mining industry, unlocking new opportunities for economic growth and job creation.
