Freetown, 12th February 2026- The African Development Bank’s (AfDB) outgoing Country Manager in Sierra Leone, Halima Hashi, has wrapped up her five-year tenure with a message of gratitude and confidence in the future of the Bank’s partnership with the government.
Speaking after a farewell meeting with President Julius Maada Bio, Hashi described her time in Sierra Leone as “an incredible journey, full of challenges, learning, and meaningful partnerships and impact.”
Hashi emphasized the role of government support in strengthening AfDB’s work in Sierra Leone.
“Meeting the President gave me the chance to personally thank him for his leadership and the generous support his government has extended to the African Development Bank throughout my tenure,” she said.
She noted that the partnership had grown “in both scale and impact,” with AfDB investments spanning energy, agriculture, water and sanitation, transport, financial governance, and private sector development, all aligned with Sierra Leone’s national priorities.
As she prepares to hand over to her successor, Hashi assured the President of AfDB’s continued commitment.
“I leave with gratitude and confidence that this strong partnership will continue to create positive change for the people of Sierra Leone,” she remarked.
Her departure marks the end of a period in which AfDB deepened its footprint in Sierra Leone’s development agenda. The Bank’s projects have been credited with supporting infrastructure growth, improving service delivery, and strengthening governance frameworks.
Hashi’s farewell underscores AfDB’s pledge to maintain momentum under new leadership, ensuring that Sierra Leone remains a key beneficiary of the Bank’s regional development strategy.
