Freetown, 6th October 2026- APC flagbearer aspirant Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has urged members of the All People’s Congress (APC) to embrace unity, discipline and mutual respect as the party intensifies preparations for its internal electoral processes ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking during engagements with party stakeholders in Port Loko City on Monday, October 5, Dr. Bangura congratulated candidates who emerged victorious in the APC’s recent constituency elections while appealing to unsuccessful contenders and their supporters not to allow the outcome of the contests to create divisions within the party.
According to the DIB Movement Media and Communications Team, Dr. Bangura described Port Loko as a critical political stronghold whose support has shaped the APC’s history and will remain vital to its future success.
He called on party members to view one another as members of the same political family regardless of the candidates they supported during the internal elections, stressing that peace and unity must take precedence as the party moves towards its National Delegates Convention.
“Let us respect one another and work together in the collective interest of the APC,” he urged, emphasizing the need for cohesion at a time when the party is preparing to elect its leadership and chart its course towards the next national elections.
Addressing his ambition to lead the APC into the 2028 polls, Dr. Bangura expressed confidence in his prospects but insisted that his confidence was rooted in careful planning, hard work and a structured campaign rather than arrogance.
He said his ultimate goal is to unite supporters across different factions and help build a stronger and more disciplined APC capable of mounting a formidable challenge in the next general election.
“I want an APC that emerges from its National Delegates Convention stronger, more united and more focused on the future,” he said.
As part of his visit to Port Loko District, Dr. Bangura paid courtesy calls on Paramount Chief Bai Forkie Fainka II of Maforkie Chiefdom and Paramount Chief Adekalie Mella III of Bakeh Loko Chiefdom, reaffirming his commitment to traditional institutions and cultural values.
At Maforkie Chiefdom, Paramount Chief Bai Forkie Fainka II commended the APC aspirant for the visit, describing it as a gesture that demonstrated respect for traditional leadership. The chief welcomed Dr. Bangura and assured him of his continued openness and support.
Responding, Dr. Bangura said engagement with traditional authorities remained an important aspect of his outreach efforts, noting that Sierra Leone’s cultural institutions continue to play an important role in national development and political stability.
In Bakeh Loko Chiefdom, Paramount Chief Adekalie Mella III similarly welcomed the APC aspirant and expressed appreciation for the visit, describing him as the first APC flagbearer aspirant to pay a courtesy call on him.
The chief subsequently offered prayers and blessings for Dr. Bangura’s political journey and wished him success in his future endeavours.
The Port Loko engagements form part of Dr. Bangura’s broader grassroots campaign as APC members continue to prepare for key internal processes leading to the party’s National Delegates Convention.
Throughout the visit, the DIB Movement maintained a consistent message centred on party unity, respect for institutions and strengthening the APC ahead of the next phase of its leadership contest, with Dr. Bangura urging supporters across all camps to work together in the interest of the party’s future.
