Freetown, 15th September, 2026 – The Independent Police Complaints Board (IPCB) has opened a formal investigation into an alleged shooting incident at Kroo Town Road and Bay Community in Freetown that left three people dead and several others injured.
The incident, which circulated widely on social media on September 13, has raised public concern and prompted swift action from the oversight body. In a statement, the IPCB confirmed that the probe is being conducted under the Independent Police Complaints Board Regulations, 2013, which mandate investigations into cases where police officers discharge firearms resulting in death or injury.
The IPCB emphasized that the inquiry reflects the State’s commitment to accountability and transparency in policing. “The public will be kept fully informed of developments as they occur,” the IPCB assured.
The investigation will examine whether police conduct during the incident complied with legal standards, with the Board empowered to act on its own initiative or in response to complaints from citizens, officers, or public institutions.
The probe will be a critical test of Sierra Leone’s police accountability framework, as it seeks to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding the deaths and injuries.
