Freetown, 7th April 2026- In a show of unity, all twenty‑two councillors of the Freetown City Council have declared their unwavering support for Mayor Yvonne Aki‑Sawyerr and her Deputy, Kweku Lisk, following allegations that four councillors accepted one hundred thousand new Leones each to impeach the Mayor.

In a statement issued over the weekend, the councillors dismissed the claims as “baseless, misleading, and clearly intended to create division and distraction from the progress being made in Freetown.”

The councillors, representing the All People’s Congress (APC), emphasized their solidarity and commitment to serving the people of Freetown. “We remain united in purpose and unwavering in our commitment to deliver sustainable development, good governance, and improved service delivery,” the statement read.

They praised the leadership of Mayor Aki‑Sawyerr and Deputy Lisk, noting the strides made under their administration, and urged residents to remain confident in the Council’s leadership.

“We call on all Freetownians to reject misinformation aimed at undermining our shared progress,” the councillors added, pledging resilience, determination, and a clear vision for a better Freetown.
