Freetown, 19th November 2025- On November 16, 2025, the “Wi Duti” organization—known for its slogan “Wi Lappa Movement” hosted its first National Meeting at the Bintumani Hotel in Freetown. The gathering focused on advancing female representation in the 2028 presidential elections.
The event brought together women from different backgrounds, professions, and regions, united by a shared commitment to political inclusion and gender equity.
The “Wi Duti” initiative was founded by Zainab Sheriff, CEO of the organization, following her public call for greater memorialization and transitional justice in Sierra Leone. Her vision emphasizes the need to honour the country’s history while choosing women to shape its future.
” For decades men have led Sierra Leone; it is time to give women a chance to lead. I strongly believe that Sierra Leone is ready for a female president” she said, passionately.
Like her many women in attendance echoed the same aspiration.
“We want a female president in Sierra Leone come 2028. It’s time for a woman to lead. we have supported men for far too long, now it is time to hold the reigns” said Memunatu Mansaray, the chair lady of the street
traders’ association.
Zainab sheriff believes that women are capable and fit to lead Sierra Leone. When asked if she wanted to be a president herself, she said “yes I am capable with the right guidance I can lead this country as a woman.”
She says that their movement will strongly campaign for a female presidential candidate in either the ruling or main opposition party for the 2028 elections.
like her, women in attendance strongly supported the notion. They had one voice ” we want to vote in a woman president in the coming up election. We want a female presidential candidate in either the ruling or main opposition party.”
