Dubai/Abu Dhabi, 9th February 2026– Sierra Leone’s presence at the World Governments Summit 2026 marked a turning point in the country’s international diplomacy, as President Julius Maada Bio positioned the nation as a credible voice in global governance and economic partnerships.
On 31 January 2026, President Bio joined world leaders in Dubai under the theme “Shaping Future Governments.” His participation was not merely ceremonial but strategic, signaling Sierra Leone’s intent to contribute to the future of international cooperation.
That intent was made tangible in Abu Dhabi on 2nd February, when President Bio and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan witnessed the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The accord opens new pathways for trade and investment across infrastructure, energy, logistics, and agriculture, while affirming the UAE’s confidence in Sierra Leone’s reform trajectory.
“This agreement is more than trade, it is a bridge connecting Sierra Leone’s growth ambitions with global markets,” UAE officials noted during the signing.
Beyond economics, Sierra Leone’s leadership in health governance was spotlighted. In discussions with Dr. Sania Nishtar, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, President Bio was commended for mobilizing political will during Gavi’s replenishment, which secured a record US$10 billion.
Sierra Leone’s achievements, over 90 percent immunization coverage, expanded vaccine access, and resilient responses to recent health crises, were cited as evidence of governance through health.
Looking ahead, President Bio announced a “300 Days of Activism” initiative focused on maternal, newborn, and child survival, reaffirming health as a presidential priority.
From economic diplomacy in Abu Dhabi to health leadership in Dubai, Sierra Leone’s message was clear, the nation is no longer on the margins of global dialogue but is helping to shape it.
In an era where influence is measured not by size but by substance, Sierra Leone’s voice is increasingly steady, principled, and respected. The CEPA and health initiatives together underscore a new model of diplomacy, one that blends economic reform, social investment, and global partnerships.
